Restoration Hill Distinctives

If you are looking for a local church, we would be honored to have you gather with us. Every church is different and we affirm that the Lord uses different approaches to reach different people. We not only affirm this, but we make time to pray for different local churches by name every week. That said, we have adopted what we believe is the most helpful approach to corporate worship and disciple making.

Those who have been attending Restoration Hill since our inception in December of 2017 have received more Bible than is typical. During this time we have walked through the life and ministry of Jesus twice, once in the Gospel of Mark and the other in Luke’s gospel. We preached through Genesis, touching on all of the key passages, and walked verse by verse through 1 John.

Beyond the preaching ministry, we practice the public reading of Scripture based on Paul’s instructions to Timothy (1 Timothy 4:13). Each week we read from the Psalms, Old Testament, Gospels, and other New Testament books. Through these four weekly readings, we have covered extensive portions from Mark, Luke and John. We have read a sizable portion of the Psalms and large sections from the Old and New Testaments. Each week the four passages are related to one another and have helped us connect dots between the sermon and the big picture in Scripture.

In addition to an emphasis on God’s word, we spend a significant amount of time in corporate prayer. Our weekly gathering has multiple times of corporate prayer and at the center of our worship service, is a time of prayer for the Church. It is during this time that we pray for the global church, the persecuted church, local churches, and a specific local church by name.

We believe an emphasis on God's word, prayer, and the Lord’s table serves to conform us to the image of Christ. These three things are vitally important and it is impossible to include them in a 90 minute service without sacrificing something. In order to accommodate this level of Scripture engagement and corporate prayer in our worship gatherings we have sacrificed some of the time we spend singing. We love congregational singing and we relish the three songs we sing each week, but giving up a couple of additional songs is a worthwhile sacrifice.

We have adopted a fruitful approach to corporate worship that balances prayer, Scripture reading, singing, preaching, and the weekly observance of the Lord's table. Over time, this approach will bear much fruit in our lives and in the lives of our children.
